Schools plan to share plans with board

Each Harrisburg School District campus has provided the school board a synopsis of their events, activities and goals to meet for the month of February.

Those notes, schedules and endeavors will be shared when the board meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Harrisburg Middle School media center.

West Side School conducted a pre-K "Around the World Family Night" on Feb. 4, staff and families of WADI were present and according to Principal Kim Williams, they had a great evening.

On Feb. 8 the school hosted "Share the Love of a Good Book" to promote schoolwide literacy, teachers from each class switched classrooms to read to the students in different classes, Williams states that is was a successful event.

The school also received a special delivery, Jesse Gidcumb, former student of the Harrisburg School District and class of 2001, donated copies of the children's book that he illustrated, to Mrs. Allen's kindergarten class. More information is to be shared at the board meeting.

East Side Intermediate School administration team interviewed three candidates for the fourth-grade special education position that will be available when Mr. Louis Kerr retires at the end of this school year.

The intermediate school is also purchasing a new scoreboard for the gym. The present scoreboard is the original from 1979 and replacement parts are unavailable. The school plans to secure the funds to purchase the new board from donations.

Harrisburg High School Student Council is planning to have one last farewell event in Bonnell Gym. It's currently looking at having this event the last couple of weeks in April. It will be a community event. It is planning to have a meal and entertainment. There will be more to come as the preparations are settled.

Feb. 18 will be one of the high school's parent/teacher conference nights. That night is also slated for freshman orientation.

Winter sports competitions are ending and Principle Scott Dewar stated that he is proud of the athletes, students, and coaches.

As a reminder, prom is scheduled for May 7 and Harrisburg High School's graduation will be May 14.
