Todd Fort's trial date has been moved to June 13.

Last week, defense attorney Bryan Drew indicated he may ask for a continuance to give the defense more time to prepare for the trial, which originally was set for May 4. Fort, a former chief deputy, is charged with several counts of sexual misconduct with an intern at the Saline County Sheriff's Department when she was 16 and 17 years old. Sexual relations with a 16-year-old are illegal; relations with a 17-year-old are illegal for someone in a position of authority over the minor.

The hearing on Wednesday was brief; Drew indicated last week he may need more time to prepare. Judge Walden Morris told Drew to have any motion for an extension of time ready by April 20 for argument on April 22.

State's Attorney Mike Henshaw said the prosecution is ready for trial.
Drew has contended additional charges filed in March and an expert witness disclosed recently amount to a delaying tactic. Henshaw said at the hearing last week the State's Attorney's office is simply trying to disclose evidence and witnesses as required by law and is not attempting to delay anything.
