Aspen Dental to provide free dental care for vets, June 9
On Saturday, June 9, nearly 500 Aspen Dental practices will open their doors to provide free care exclusively to as many as 5,000 of our nation's veterans.

Want your own honey? The Shawnee Bee Club meets the fourth Monday at the University of Illinois Extension office, 912 S. Commercial St. (U.S. 45) next to Dream Baskets. Meeting at 6 p.m., potluck (you will be welcomed without food.) Dues $20 per year included membership in the State Beekeepers Association. Members are knowledgeable and friendly. They will help you get started and guide you through the year. Mother's Day, May 13. Do you remember when we gave our mothers corsages for their day. Red if her mother were alive, white it she weren't. For most of the years, the florist delivered these on Sunday morning in time for church. We kids had flowers too, roses from the backyard. Mothers and motherhood are blessed and designed by God. Depending on the translation, the word mother is used 250 times in the Bible and I didn't count the number of God-fearing women who in that vocation as a mother served their Lord, family and people as only a mother can do.

Eldorado Garden Study Club hosts district meeting, receives awards
ELDORADO -- Garden clubs from across the southern portion of the state gathered in Eldorado recently, as 103 members of garden clubs from District VII of Garden Clubs of Illinois met at the First Christian Church on March 22. Gardeners enjoyed a day of gardening fun, fellowship, fundraising and good food. A president's meeting and general business meeting were held, awards were distributed, and a silent auction, raffle and sale were held.

Luke tells us that people from Egypt and parts of Libya were present. Yet, those at Pentecost may not have been Black Africans but Semitic or Roman Africans.

Metamorphosis: Butterflies emerge from plain brick wall

Now a successful nurse practitioner, Galatia native credits SIC
HARRISBURG -- Southeastern Illinois College has highly reputed nursing programs, but a program is only as successful as its students. Happily, SIC Nursing has produced many students who have found success in their careers. One such former student is Josh Richardson, a Galatia native and U.S. Army veteran, who completed the Licensed Practical Nursing program in 2009 and the ADN program in 2011.
