Nancy Lambert: Congratulations to this summer's 4-H beef show winners

The 2019 Saline County 4-H Beef Show, held this past summer, followed the annual 4-H Family Picnic.

Senior Showmanship Grand Champion was Katherine Smith, with Taylor Hale receiving Senior Showmanship Reserve Champion. Intermediate Showmanship Grand Champion was Tristen Hale. Shelby Pribble received the Intermediate Showmanship Reserve Champion ribbon.

Junior Showmanship Grand Champion was Caroline Tanner, with Braxton Davis receiving Junior Showmanship Reserve Champion.

In the Breeding classes, Grand Champion Breeding Angus went to Katherine Smith and Reserve Champion Breeding Angus went to Shelby Pribble. Grayson Rann received Grand Champion Breeding Hereford, and Reserve Champion Breeding Hereford honors went to Haylee Brown.

Grand Champion Breeding Simmental went to Taylor Hale and Reserve Champion Breeding Simmental went to Trevor Hale. Kolten Oglesby showed the Grand Champion Breeding Shorthorn and Joselyn Bender showed the Reserve Champion Breeding Shorthorn.

Katherine Smith earned Grand Champion Breeding AOB, with Haylee Brown receiving the Reserve Champion ribbon in that class.

The Overall Breeding Beef Grand Champion was Katherine Smith with her Angus entry and the Overall Breeding Beef Reserve Champion was Katherine Smith with her AOB entry. Katherine received banners with the category and species depicted and the Champion's plaque.

In the Market class, Colin Huelsmann received Grand Champion Market Steer and Kolten Oglesby earned Reserve Champion Market Steer. Both of these 4-H members received personalized banners for their Overall Grand Champion and Overall Reserve Champion Market Steers, respectively, and the Champion received an engraved plaque.

The Beef Bred and Owned classes were divided into Breeding and Market. The winner of the Breeding Beef Bred and Owned Champion plaque and gift card, sponsored by Anderson Crop Insurance - Phil and Karen Anderson, was Katherine Smith. Taylor Hale won the Reserve Champion Breeding Beef Bred and Owned plaque and gift card, sponsored by Ron and Carla Bradley.

The winner of the Market Beef Bred and Owned Champion plaque and gift card was Kolten Oglesby. Sierra Wilson won the Reserve Champion Market Beef Bred and Owned plaque and gift card. Both the Champion and Reserve Champion Bred & Owned Market Beef prizes were sponsored by C&B Cattle Company - Chris and Ben Evans.

Congratulations to all of our Beef exhibitors, and thanks to judge Tim Quiggins, Superintendent Dan Evans, and to all who worked in the ring and behind the scenes to make the show run smoothly. Thanks also to Saline County Farm Bureau and Manager Marisa Davis for their support all year long and their donation of ribbons and Champion Banners, and to Tim Arnold for engraving the Champion plaques.
