Michael Hillegas DAR chapter plans Constitution Week activities

Michael Hillegas Chapter Committee members Sharon Tanner, Kathy Morris, Shelia Albright, Candy Duncan Evans, and Joy Richey are planning for a busy Constitution Week. The committee has already had Constitution Week proclamations signed by dignitaries. Some churches will ring their bells on the 17th of September and bells will be rung at the DAR meeting and at school programs.

Constitution Week is always the week of Sept. 17-23. It does not matter what day of the week it falls on.

You will see exhibits at the libraries with Constitution Week posters hanging in public buildings, libraries, and at schools. Every year, The National Society of the Daughters or the American Revolution hold a contest to select a new poster. The 2019 poster was done by a DAR member from Mount Vernon. One will be on display at both the Eldorado Memorial Library as well as the Harrisburg District Library.

Several of the local businesses that have electronic marquees will also be flashing with Constitution Week information. So when you see some of our efforts, take a look at the Constitution and remember what it stands for and the freedom it secures for all Americans.

Flag Retirement

Don't forget to attend the Flag Retirement Ceremony that will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Harrisburg Park District. Many people have never seen one. The American Legion and the Sons of the American Legion, George Hart Post 167, Harrisburg Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, Michael Hillegas DAR Chapter, Woodmen Life, and the Park District will all be participating. This patriotic program will not be long.
