Country Friends finalizes plans for 100th anniversary celebration

The chairwoman of the Country Friends Home Extension, Holly Stokich, opened the April meeting with the Homemaker's Creed.

Roll Call revealed that "all things chocolate" was the favorite Easter candy with Marshmallow Peeps running a close second.

Colleen Alvey reminded everyone that the 100th anniversary celebration will be held on Saturday, April 28. The program will run from 2 to 4 p.m. at the education building of the McKinley Baptist Church. A program called Down Memory Lane will be held at 2:15 p.m., where members will bring items for the display tables to show different activities and crafts that have been done through the years.

In lieu of a planned program for the April meeting, the members enjoyed watching a tape of Mason Ramsey, the young boy from Golconda who is an aspiring country singer. He appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show, and on Wednesday performed at the Harrisburg Walmart.

In addition, Walmart presented him with a check for $15,000 for his college fund and made arrangements for him to fulfill a dream to sing at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville this past Saturday.

Co-hostesses Holly Stokich and Lynda Roper served refreshments to members Kathy Morris, Carletta Hanks, Bonnie Absher, Joyce Owens, Georgia Murphy, Colleen Alvey, Delores Vick, Tracy Murphy and Sharon Tanner.

Linda Summers will be the May hostess. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1.
