DeNeal's Destroyers big winner in Carrier Mills-Stonefort dodgeball tourney

DeNeal's Destroyers sophomore team claimed the Victory is Ours! trophy after winning Carrier Mills-Stonefort High School's third Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports event of the year on Nov. 16.

Any student who followed the Rule of Five was eligible to sign up for a dodgeball team. Each class had two teams in the tournament, with eight classmates on each team. This was a round robin tournament with four teams in each bracket. The winner of Pool A played the winner of Pool B in the championship game.

In the opening round game of Pool A, the senior team, Lane's Lunatics, played against the freshman team, Motsinger's Mean Machine. In a stunning upset, the Mean Machine sent the Lunatics to the consolation bracket. In the second game, the sophomore team, DeNeal's Destroyers, moved on to the championship round with a win against the junior team, Eisenhauer's Giant Killers.

In Pool B, Manier's White Knights, the freshman team, upset the sophomore team, Klope's Fighting Illini. In the second game, the junior team, Hosmon's Blue Devils, sent Mitchell's Maruaders, the senior team, to the consolation bracket.

In the championship bracket of Pool A, DeNeal's Destroyers ended the tournament hopes for Motsinger's Mean Machine. In Pool B, it was Manier's White Knights pulling off another upset, this time over Hosmon's Blue Devils and advancing to the championship game against DeNeal's Destroyers.

In the consolation bracket, Lane's Lunatics rallied to defeat Eisenhauer's Giant Killers and advanced to the consolation championship game against Klope's Fighting Illini. The Fighting Illini defeated Mitchell's Marauders in a back-and-forth match.

With the championship games set, it was the Lunatics that held up the championship belt by defeating the Fighting Illini to claim the consolation championship.

Members of the senior team are Renata Godsey, Tierra Godsey, Gabe Zertuche, Gabe Benton, Brayden Edwards, Billy Lewis, Lauren Hancock, Sienna Figg and Coach Lane.

In the championship match, the White Knights were no match for DeNeal's Destroyers. Members of the sophomore team are Abby Whiting, Darion Barners, Desirae Jones, Rostin Lewis, Jordan Robertson, Colton Betz, Laura Talandis, Ethan Fitzgerald and Coach DeNeal.
