Harrisburg Kiwanis host program on massage therapy

Valerie Wheeler, a licensed massage therapist at Joyner Therapy Services in Harrisburg, presented a program during Harrisburg Kiwanis Club's June 14 luncheon meeting.

Wheeler talked about services provided at Joyner and the benefits of massage therapy. She said it provides better range of motion, increases blood and lymph circulation and gets rid of waste.

Another benefit is that massage releases endorphins, which are "feel good" hormones, Wheeler said. Also, she pointed out that it helps lower blood pressure, increase red blood cells and improve the immune system, and may even improve digestion and decrease anxiety.

Everyone may benefit from massage therapy, she added, but it is especially helpful with those who have experienced joint replacement.

Wheeler is available every Monday and Wednesday at Joyner Therapy Services. Also, a second therapist is available on Fridays.
