Franklin County Board members were placed in a unique situation during this week's committee meetings when they were asked to help a county employee.

David Willmore said his wife Suzanne is with her son Chaz Ligon in a Texas hospital as he continues to recover from wounds suffered while on a tour of military duty.

Introduced by board member and fellow West Frankfort resident Jim McPhail, Willmore said his stepson was stationed in Afghanistan when an IED exploded near his vehicle.

Willmore said one of Ligon's legs remains in pieces, while another has been amputated.

He said Ligon has lost sight in his left eye.

His stepfather said Suzanne is staying with her son while he continues the long journey to mend. Willmore said his wife is one of two employees in one of the offices of the Franklin-Williamson Regional Office of Education, adding that Williamson County employees had offered to give some of their sick bay bank days to Suzanne.

He volunteered to donate sick bay bank days to help his wife and said others had also offered to donate days to help a fellow employee.

Willmore said his wife was also concerned about maintaining her job while she was staying with her son. County Board Chairman Randall Crocker assured Willmore that his wife's job was not in jeopardy as board members went into executive session to further discuss personnel issues.
