  • For the second year, the popular Wing.A.Ma.Jig Festival will be held on the Harrisburg downtown square noon to 7 p.m. Saturday.
The festival, which was very successful last year, will return and hopes to be even more fun-filled and popular event this year.
Lori Cox, the executive director of the Saline County Chamber of Commerce said, “The Saline County Chamber of Commerce is excited to bring the event back for the second year. This year we have an even more family-friendly and fun event planned. The Wing.A.Ma.Jig will bring local entertainment, food, and a kids area to the Harrisburg Square. We hope to see you there!”
The Wing.A.Ma.Jig is organized to be a family friendly event. Starting off at 8 a.m. with a 5K/10K Chicken Run/Walk at the Harrisburg Middle School — event organizers urge participants to arrive early for registration — the festival gets into full swing afterwards with music filling the air offering an impressive list of musicians including Giovanni Jones, sponsored by All in One Real Estate and Murphy 500 sponsored by Gypsy Moon Boutique.
The subtly tempting smell of a wide array of differently cooked and flavored chicken wings will fill the air and be available for everyone to taste, and everyone is encouraged to bring a big appetite. If you don’t like chicken wings this is not a problem, many other concessions will be available. Overheating from too many hot wings? Grab an ice cold beer from the beer tent. And the kids have not been forgotten, from snow cones to a bouncy house obstacle course, there will be plenty for even the most energetic youngsters to do.
Dale Fowler, Harrisburg City Commissioner says that he is very excited about the Wing.A.Ma.Jig.
“Almost all cities have an annual downtown event, the Wing.A.Ma.Jig was very successful last year and we are happy that we seem to be starting an event that will become a signature festival for Harrisburg. We have needed a marquee event for the downtown for awhile and this, in conjunction with new businesses and improvements to the downtown, is just what we like to see to exhibit how pleasant and attractive our downtown is becoming,” Fowler said.
Fowler will be, to his pleasure, the M.C. of the event for the second time and is proud as well as happy to see this festival taking off.
Page 2 of 2 - “It helps to highlight the improvements to the downtown and we have a lot of improvements to come, more parking, more businesses, it is an exciting time for the development of downtown Harrisburg,” Fowler said.
The city of Harrisburg and the Saline County Chamber of Commerce want to invite everyone in Southern Illinois to come out, bring their lawn chairs and be ready for a fun filled day.
