Paul Marshall sentenced 10 years for robbery

A Carrier Mills man who committed robbery at an apartment and led police on a high speed pursuit through Harrisburg received a 10-year sentence Wednesday.

Paul E. Marshall, 20, pled guilty to the Class 2 felony of robbery and Class 3 felony of unlawful possession of weapons by a felon, according to a release from Saline County State's Attorney Mike Henshaw. Extended sentences were imposed because of Marshall's previous criminal history.

The Saline County Sheriff's Office led the investigation with help from Illinois Secretary of State Police, Marion Police Department and Williamson County Sheriff's Department.

On April 2, 2013, Jermaine Lee reported he had been robbed at his apartment on Muddy Road, near Southeastern Illinois College. Saline County Deputies responded and a high speed pursuit through downtown Harrisburg ensued, ending at the outskirts of Marion. Sheriff Keith Brown and Chief Deputy Ken Clore stopped pursuit after the vehicle reached more than 100 mph. The vehicle was eventually stopped and Marshall and two others were arrested by Illinois Secretary of State Police, Marion Police and the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators found two handguns thrown from the vehicle between the Harrisburg Soccer Complex and the Church of Christ.

Marshall was also sentenced to a term of seven years in Illinois Department of Corrections, two years mandatory supervised release and costs for a violation of probation stemming from a 2011 arrest for burglary. The sentences were ordered to run concurrent with each other.

Assistant State's Attorney Jason A. Olson led the prosecution.
