The Harrisburg High School girls’ basketball team went 3-1 at the Fairfield Merry Mule Tournament. Harrisburg lost to Fairfield in double overtime, but bounced back to beat Robinson, Nashville (JV) and closed out the tournament with a win over a tough North Posey, Indiana team.
Fairfield 69, Harrisburg 65 2OT
Fairfield jumped out to a 18-6 first quarter lead, but Harrisburg closed the gap by six and trailed 28-22 at the half. The Bulldogs were down by five, 38-33 going into the game’s final eight minutes when the Bulldogs found themselves up by three in the closing seconds when the Mules banked in a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime.
Ashley Ferrell and Hanna Jones had both fouled out at this point as Harrisburg held a two-point lead with seven seconds left only to see Fairfield use the glass again as time expired to force the 2nd OT session.
In the second overtime Harrisburg had a chance to win the game down a point with 12 seconds left but was called for a travel. On the Fairfield inbounds, The Bulldogs were called for a intentional foul for holding a player without the ball being inbounded yet which led to the 69-65 final.

Harrisburg 63, Robinson 32
The Bulldogs bounced back, playing their second game in as many days and controlled the game from the start leading 14-4 after the first and 27-14 at the half. A big second half by Harrisburg put the game away out scoring Robinson 36-18 in the final 16 minutes.
Hanna Jones scored a double-double for the Bulldogs with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Harrisburg 72, Nashville JV 29
Harrisburg held Nashvile’s junior varsity team into single digit scoring in each quarter and hit nine 3-pointers in the game.

Harrisburg 47 North Posey 35

The two teams found themsleves tied at 12 after the end of the first, while North Posey outscored Harrisbrug 13-9 in the second quarter to take a 25-21 lead at halftime.
Harrisburg then out scored North Posey in the third quarter 7-5 to make it a 30-28 game. The Bulldogs then had a huge fourth quarter out scoring the Vikings 19-5 for the final 47-35. Harrisburg only allowed 10 second half points.

“We played a good four days against good competition,” Harrisburg head coach Jake Stewart said. “We added some games this year to boost our schedule up and play different teams. I thought Hanna (Jones) played her best basketball yet and as a team we got better which is what we wanted”.
