  • Illinois State Fire Marshal investigators ruled the Friday morning fire that destroyed the home of Jason Kasiar and family was electrical in nature.
Fire Chief Mike McKinnies said he called the Fire Marshal due to the heavy loss sustained in the fire, estimating it in the realm of $600,000.
The fire department responded at 11:58 a.m. with two engines and a tanker arriving at the 8309 U.S. Route 45 address in four minutes. McKinnies knew the home across the highway from the stables at the north edge of town would require more water and called for mutual aid from Galatia at 12:08 p.m. and Ridgway at 1 p.m.
"It was on fire from one end to the other," McKinnies said.
Firefighters remained on the scene until about 6 p.m.
Investigators traced the source as wiring in the living room near a fireplace.
McKinnies said the home was protected with an ADT alarm system that notifies the homeowner. When Kasier got the call he went home, kicked the back door open and rescued one of two dogs in the house. He then dialed 911.
The fire was particularly laborious for the Eldorado crew. McKinnies said some used three or four packs of oxygen throughout the ordeal.
