Mona Crim, director of the Christian Community and Compassion Center homeless shelter, was standing proudly next to the fundraising thermometer at WEBQ radio with Sales Manager Sonny Dotson at the end of the broadcast day 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The station had helped the local non-denominational charitable outreach organization to stage a day-long Radio-thon to pull the homeless shelter out of a financial crisis that threatened to close the only shelter in Harrisburg at the end of the month.
Crim said,"We had a goal of $50,000 and we reached $41,444 by the end of the show. We expect to reach our $50,000 goal later today as promised donations come in. That is a year's operating budget for us. In the future we hope to have a program of regular donations that will keep us from coming so close to closing," Crim said.
"We thank God for what we received. It was wonderful! People from all over the community have blessed us."
WEBQ donated it's 102.3 FM station to the fund raiser from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.
