  • The Harrisburg High School boys' soccer team got a pair of second half goals Wednesday night to knock off Breese Central in the first round of the IHSA Class 2A Regional.
Carver Gregg and Anfernee Houston both found the back of the net in Harrisburg's victory.
The two goals however weren't the turning point in the game for Harrisburg according to head coach Mike Stewart.
"You could tell this was a tournament game because both teams played liked they wanted to win. This was a game that really boiled down to who broke the ice first. When some confusion in the net on our side occurred and Dylan Butler made a
tremendous save, I think that is what changed the momentum of the game for us. "Within the next two minutes the same thing happened at the other end and Carver Gregg was able to complete the deal and put us on the board first. Anfernee's goal in the 72nd minute sealed it for us"
Stewart said he was pleased with how his team came out of the gate.
"We came out on the attack. We need to play like all the time. I think that took
Breese Central by surprise Getting 11 shots off and several more that went wide also played a factor in the win today. We have not been quick to shoot the ball all
season. We have been telling them all season to shoot more, take the outside shot, put the ball on frame and the goals will come. I think this win just proved that."
Ryan Cowsert got the win in goal, making six saves in the shutout.
Houston finished with four shots on goal, while Cody Morris had three. Gregg and Luke Horton each had two, while Nat Harris and Butler each had one.
Harrisburg is now 9-10-2 on the season.
