A Harrisburg man and woman were injured in a crash on Kedron Road at Grater Road in Gallatin County Wednesday night.
According to a release from the Illinois State Police, at 10:42 p.m. Ryne D. Johnson, 23, Harrisburg, was driving a pickup eastbound on Kedron Road, approaching the intersection with Grater Road while talking on his cell phone. Johnson failed to recognize the intersection and the vehicle crossed east over Grater Road, before impacting a ditch and overturning onto the passenger side.
Johnson and the two passengers in the truck, Laura E. Hubbs, age 20 of Equality and Ashley R. Terry, age 21 of Harrisburg, were all transported by Med Force Ambulance Service to Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, according to the release.
Terry was later transferred to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
None of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash, the release indicates.
The Illinois State Police was assisted at the crash scene by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department and the Shawneetown Fire Department.
Johnson, Hubbs and Terry were all cited for illegal transportation of alcohol and failure to wear seat belt. In addition, Johnson was charged with DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Hubbs was also cited for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor. The crash remains under investigation.
