Louise Catherine Abell, 95, lifelong resident of Ridgway, died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013.
Louise was born in Ridgway on July 14, 1918, to the late Ed and Katie (Drone) Wenzel. On Aug. 17, 1937, she married Martin Abell who preceded her in death in 2000. Louise was a cook at St. Joseph Catholic School and the Ridgway School for many years. She loved to quilt and be with her family. She was a member of the Altar Society, Home Bureau, and the Daughters of Isabella. Louise had wonderful faith; she was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister and will be missed by many.
Louise is survived by four sons, Bob (Barbara) Abell of Swansea, Richard (Barbara) Abell of Ramsey, Larry (Connie) Abell of Goreville and Patrick (Becky) Abell of Ridgway; two daughters, Linda (Chuck) McGuire of Ridgway and Cathy (Jim) Smith of Harrisburg; 11 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Fr. Don Abell; a brother, Earl Wenzel; two grandsons, Mark McGuire and David Abell.
Visitation for Louise will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway. A prayer service will be said at 4 p.m. Her funeral mass will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the St. Patrick's Church east of Ridgway and interment will follow in the church cemetery. Fr. Steven Beatty will celebrate the mass.
In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to the St. Kateri Building Fund, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
