  • A Southern Illinois man who was ordered to stand trial on charges that he killed his girlfriend's 23-month-old son got an earful in court from the boy's grandmother.
Twenty-five-year-old Kody Johnson pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder count this week in Williamson County for last month's death of Skyler West-France.
Authorities have said the toddler sustained head injuries while Johnson was watching the boy because the toddler's mother was at work.
WSIL-TV reports that during this week's hearing, the boy's grandmother, April West, shouted at Johnson. She said: "I hope you burn."
Johnson is jailed in lieu of $1 million bond.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30.
