  • The Gallatin County Fair/Popcorn Day festival is underway through Sunday at Ridgway.
    Gate fees for most of the fairground events are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-12 and pre-schoolers free.
    Events for the rest of the week include:
    Wednesday
    4 p.m. to 8 p.m. — Arts and crafts registration will take place at the St. Joseph Catholic Gym.
    6 p.m. — Baby photo contest will be followed by the Little Mr. and Miss Contest.
    7 p.m. — Kiddie tractor pull and the Little Lassie Contest will be followed by the Junior Miss Contest on the stage downtown.
    Thursday
    8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — The arts and crafts registration will take place with judging to start at 5 p.m.
    5:30 p.m. — Carnival armband night for $18.
    7 p.m. — Gospel night begins downtown with The Lesters who will be sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Ridgway.
    Friday
    1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. — Culinary show registration with judging at 7 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Gym and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. the arts and crafts will be open to the public.
    3 p.m. — The menagerie tent will be open near the Ridgway Water Department.
    5 p.m. — Second armband night at the carnival for $18.
    7 p.m. — The Miss Gallatin County Fair Queen Contest will begin.
    Saturday Popcorn Day
    8 a.m. — Arts and crafts and culinary shows are open to the public until 4 p.m. except from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
    9:30 a.m. — Kiddie parade.
    10 a.m. — Carnival opens $20 armbands good until closing.
    10 a.m. — Menagerie tent will open and the frog jumping, popcorn eating and bubble gum blowing contests.
    1 p.m. — Giant parade.
    5 p.m. — Demolition derby at the fairgrounds.
    Saturday Downtown free stage entertainment
    2:30 p.m. — Kentucky band Glastone.
    3:45 p.m. — Nashville recording group Shenandoah.
    5 p.m. — Grayville band Us.
    6:15 p.m. — A cappella quartet Blend.
    7:30 p.m. — Grayville band Us.
    8:45 p.m. — Blend again at 8:45 p.m.
    10 p.m. — Shenandoah
    Sept. 15 — Left open for any local event rained out previously.
    As usual, the traditional free freshly-popped popcorn will be available downtown Thursday night, Friday night, and all day Saturday in the popcorn pavilion near the stage. For more information, please call 618-272-8971.
