  • The track at Taylor Field should soon be ready for public use Monday, Tony Chrisman, head custodian told Harrisburg School Board members Tuesday night.
He had predicted all the painting should be done by Wednesday night, but a vehicle break down kept the painters off the field Wednesday. All the work would be done in time for Friday's Soap Bowl, Chrisman said.
Chrisman said the board should address security at Taylor Field at some point. Kids are riding bicycles on the track which during the summer when the surface becomes hot is destructive. He proposed some sort of turnstile device be installed that would permit the public in to use the track, but that would prevent bicycles from being taken onto the property.
He said though the gates could be locked, there are holes in the fence that people use to gain access. Some people utilize the property for an overnight stay.
"We've run homeless people out," Chrisman said.
Chrisman said the painting and sealing of the track has been a $45,000 project and he wants to see it kept in good condition as long as possible.
