Harrisburg native killed in line of duty

A Charlotte County, Florida, sheriff's deputy who was a Harrisburg native was killed in the line of duty in Port Charlotte, Fla., Monday night.

Corporal Michael Wilson, 42, was responding to a domestic disturbance report at the Lakes of Tuscana Apartments on Veterans Blvd. in Port Charlotte, Fla., when he was shot and killed, according to a release from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.

Wilson was a 20-year veteran of the sheriff's office.

Wilson grew up in Harrisburg and is the son of Mike Wilson and stepson of Cindy Clore in Rosiclare, according to Saline County Sheriff Chief Deputy Ken Clore, Cindy Clore's brother.

He was the grandson of Frank Wilson, recently deceased of Harrisburg.

Clore said Wilson was married with three children.

Shortly after midnight, with assistance from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team, officers entered the apartment of the suspect in the shooting. The person believed to be the suspect was found dead inside, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
