Richard Turner II, 35, of Eldorado was sentenced on Aug. 1 in Saline County Circuit Court by Judge Walden E. Morris to the term of natural life imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections, according to a press release from the Saline County State's Attorney's Office.
A Saline County jury found Turner guilty of the first degree murder of four-year-old Jessika James on March 22, 2013, after a two week trial.
In addition, the jury found that Turner, when he committed the offense, had attained the age of 17 or more and that Jessika James was under 12 years of age at the time, thus resulting in a mandatory sentence of natural life imprisonment.
Lead investigator in the case was Illinois State Police Special Agent Gwendolyn Basinger. State's Attorney Michael J. Henshaw and Assistant State's Attorney Eva Walker prosecuted the case.
