  • The Carrier Mills American Legion baseball team lost to Louisville in the District Championship Wednesday night, bringing an end to their summer season.
    Wes McGuire took the hard luck loss as the soon-to-be Southeastern Illinois Community College freshman gave up one hit, two walks and three runs bedsore exiting and being replaced by Dalton Huckleberry.
    The Carrier Mills product issued nine hits, while walking five and striking out five. Austin Ferrell took over in the eighth inning giving up two hits, while striking out two.
    At the plate, Jared Jackson finished 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs, while Darren Betz, Skyler Smith and Colton McCree all had two hits. Betz drove in a run, while McCree finished with two RBIs.
    Josh Bailey, Dane Hish, Dalton Huckleberry and Kyle Wise all had a hit. Bailey drove in two and Wise had an RBI. Hish and Wise scored two runs and Huckleberry had a run.
