Rain tap dances against the tin roof night and day and every morning I measure the ruts in the road.

It this keeps up I’ll be forced to smash the piggy bank and invest in a yardstick.

Plans are in the works to stamp an image of Camel Rock on the back of a forthcoming Illinois quarter. If space remains, I’d recommend they add a rutted road to the coin.

Just kidding, of course, because rutted roads would send the wrong message to the rest of the world, though what kind of message a camel sends is anybody’s guess.

Pardon these wayward thoughts. Better yet, blame them on the rain, and the ruts, and from my spending way too much time here at the computer screen.

Sometimes I think modern technology has devil horns and spiked tail, but even I’m bright enough to know it would be smarter to tramp down to the ocean and start dipping it dry with a spoon than to complain.
