With a little over a month before the start of the high school football season, changes are in full bloom at Carbondale High School.
The South 7 Conference Terriers announced late Tuesday that head coach Dan Koester is stepping down as coach of Carbondale after five years.
Koester finishes 20-27 in five years at CCHS, making the playoffs in 2009 and 2011. Both teams lost in the first round.
In Wednesday's Southern Illinoisan Carbondale High School superintendent Steve Murphy said Koester told his assistants he had resigned for health and personal reasons.
"Nobody is the district is commenting past that," Murphy said.
Former Du Quoin standout and former Southern Illinois University quarterback Nick Hill will be interim coach for the short term. Official action is expected on Koester and possibly Hill at the next Carbondale School Board Meeting July 18th.
