Jacqueline Faye Ramsey, age 80 of Harrisburg, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Ferrell Hospital in Eldorado.
She was born in Ledford on Dec. 8, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Wendell and Audrey (Dennis) Walker.
Jackie was raised in Southern Illinois and attended Harrisburg Township High school.
She was married to George W. Ramsey on Jan. 31, 1950, and he preceded her in death Jan. 11, 2007. George and Jackie raised six children while traveling extensively as a career Navy family. She was also a member of the Navy Wives Club.
After retirement, they eventually returned to Southern Illinois. Jackie was a long time member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was often called upon to sing solos.
Jackie was a proud military wife, wonderful mother and a loving, doting grandmother.
Surviving family members include: Melissa (Cliff) Burrell of Germantown, Tenn.; George (Renee) Ramsey of Atlanta, Ga.; Lori Ramsey of Harrisburg; Amy Denbow of Harrisburg and Robin (Gary) Haney of Harrisburg. She leaves nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a brother: Dennis (Cathy) Walker of Atlanta, Ga.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years: George, son: David Ramsey, grandson: David Ramsey Jr. and a sister: Geraldine McCammon.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Richard Reed will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.
