Harrisburg drag racing is getting a facelift.
Owner Frank Sisk is pouring a quarter mile or 723 linear feet of new concrete at Accelaquarter Racing on state Route 34 north of Harrisburg.
"The concrete will cover the racing portion of the quarter mile long track and measure 1/8 of a mile," said Jeff Landis, a Harrisburg contractor working for Sisk.
"Another 1/8 of a mile of asphalt track will be for deceleration of the dragsters when they complete their runs."
New grandstand seating made of aluminum will improve the track as will digital time-keeping using data wire and new lighting for the entire operation he added. Sisk wants to open as soon as possible, said Landis. The track was first opened in 1963.
More recently the drag strip was owned by Cars For Kids charitable car enthusiasts club that benefitted less fortunate children.
The last car show held at the track was on Memorial Day of 2012.
