  • 100 gather to pray at Saline County Courthouse

  • The National Day of Prayer was observed noon Thursday in front of the Saline County Courthouse. Five local pastors, who met to organize the event earlier this year, got together and served pizza and soda to participants. A crowd of about 100 showed up.

    Jerry Wells, Dorrisville Social Bretheren, prayed for the nation; Biff Moore, First Christian Church, prayed for the government; Dewayne Taylor, Dorrisville Baptist, prayed for the military; Bobby Gentry, River of Life Pentecostal, prayed for the schools; Christine Cunningham, First United Methodist, prayed for the churches.
    The National Day of Prayer is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation.”
