  • Ingram, Duncan break records; Harrisburg takes 9 of 19 events at Herrin

  • It was a banner day in many regard for the Harrisburg High School boys' track and field team Monday in Herrin.
    Senior football signee Isaac Ingram broke the Harrisburg High School record in the shot put with a toss of 56'5.5'' and DJ Duncan set a new meet record in the 110 high hurdles, finishing in a time of 14.5.
    In all, Harrisburg took nine of 19 events, besting the field of 10 teams with a combined score of 154. Sparta took second with 133 and the host team, Herrin finished third with 60 points.
    Along with his record setting event in the 110's, Duncan also took first place in the 300 intermediate hurdles (39.6) and won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.9.
    Snjolfur Bjornsson won the triple jump with a leap of 43'3.5" and was part of the 4x100 and 4x200 that also won first place.
    The 4x100, comprised of Duncan, Bjornsson, Dylan Yates and Dustin Lane finished in a time of 44.6, while the 4x200 team of Corbin Crim, Preston Boone, Yates and Bjornsson finished in a time of 1:33.6.
    The freshman 4x200 group of Aaron Stephens, Bailey Drone, Brandon Duffield and Lane finished in a time of 1:37.6
    Rounding out the first place finishes was Luke Horton, taking the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.
    Crim finished second in both the 100 and 200 meters, while the 4x800 and the 4x400 relays all had second place finishes.
    "It was a great day for our boys," said Harrisburg head coach Zac Smith. "They competed hard and I'm really happy for them. Obviously with Isaac breaking the school record is something special."
