  • The Saline County Sheriff’s Office participated with the Prescription Drug Take Back Saturday, receiving 120 pounds of prescription medication.
The Prescription Drug Take Back is sponsored by the DEA, Saline County Sheriff’s Office and the Egyptian Health Department, where residents may drop off expired of unused prescription medications, with no questions asked.
The 120 pounds is remarkably high for the department.
“This is 40 pounds more of prescription medications than were dropped off last September when we held the last prescription take back,” said Sheriff Keith Brown.
The event is held twice a year and the DEA takes care of disposing of the medications, at no cost to the county or community.
“We encourage anyone that has expired or unused medications to drop them off with us, when we have these events, and not throw them away or flush them down the toilet,” said Sheriff Brown.
This was the sixth event held in the past few years and each year we continue to increase the amount of prescription medications we take in.
