  • Prep Softball: Bearcats take two from Hamilton Co.

  • The Galatia High School softball team stole a pair of wins on the road at Hamilton County Wednesday, knocking off the Foxes 14-7 in Game 1 and taking Game 2 10-2.
    Larissa Bond got the win in Game 1, going five innings and giving up no earned runs on four hits, while walking four and striking out two.
    Brooke Burris came on in relief and pitched innings, allowing three runs on one hit, while walking five.
    Emily Reed paced the Galatia-Thompsonville offense in the first game by going 4-for-4 at the plate, while Elizabeth Sloan went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Bond also had a home run, going 4-for-5 wih three RBIs.
    Galatia scored three runs in the first inning and tacked on three more runs in the second inning. The Bearcats added a run in the fourth inning, before exploding for seven runs in the sixth inning.
    Hamilton County tied the game in the first by getting three runs and later plated a run in the fifth and sixth inning. The Foxes finished the game with two runs in the seventh inning.
    Reed picked up the win on the mound in Game 2 by going five innings, striking out eight and allowing two earned runs on four hits.
    Bond continued her tear at the plate by going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Lexi Johnson finished 1-for-1.
    Galatia put up two runs in the first and finished with four runs in the second inning. The Bearcats then tacked on three runs in the third and one more in the fourth.
    Both of Hamilton County's runs came in the second inning.
    Galatia is now 6-4 on the season and is scheduled to play Hardin County today at 4:30 p.m.
    West Frankfort 10, Eldorado 0
    ELDORADO — Eldorado was limited to four hits as they were shut out by West Frankfort 10-0 Wednesday.
    Caitlyn Stafford, Michaela Laswell, Sam Mings and Stephanie Oker all picked up hits for the Eagles, while Laswell picked up the loss on the mound.
    Laswell gave up 10 hits and 10 runs, five earned, while striking out five and walking one.
