  • Bulldog senior named to Rawlings Preseason All-America list

  • Ryne Roper was recently named to the Rawlings All America preseason list.
    Roper, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound senior right hander was named to the 2013 Central - All Region 2nd Team.
    Roper is the fourth Bulldog baseball player to be named to the list, joining past greats as Jake Allen, Christian Cummins and Ryne's older brother Reid.
    "With more than 240,000 high school baseball players in the nation, these players represent the very best in their class," said Mike Thompson, senior vice president of marketing for St. Louis-based Rawlings. "Rawlings and Perfect Game USA are synonymous with the game of baseball, and these preseason awards allow us to reward these elite athletes for their hard work and contribution to the game."
    The Rawlings Preseason All-Region selections comprises from 400 players from eight regions around the country. Each of the regions forms a 50-man roster, complete with catchers, pitchers, infielders and outfielders.
    Rawlings Preseason All-American honorees are the top 150 players from the All-Region pool. Each recipient is named on one of three, 50-man roster national teams.
    "To receive the Rawlings Preseason All-American or All-Region Award is a tremendous achievement for these high school student-athletes," said Jerry Ford, president of Cedar Rapids, IA-based Perfect Game USA. "We are proud to partner with Rawlings to recognize their talent as they prepare for their careers playing collegiate or professional baseball."
    Roper will join his brother next season at the University of Illinois.
