Freeman Esco Rodgers, 97, resident of Eldorado, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Freeman was born July 12, 1915, in Harrisburg to the late Carroll and Grace (Prather) Rodgers. He married Viola Irene (Ray) Rodgers who preceded him in death. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. Freeman was a purchasing agent for Amoco (BP) prior to retirement in 1978. He was the founder of the Standard Oil Torch Club in Fosterburg. He was a member of the Brown Street Baptist Church in Alton and also a member of the Alton VFW.
He is survived by a daughter Vicki (Ben) Leary of Drummonds, Tenn.; three granddaughters, Lynn (Barry) Morse of Cordova, Tenn., Deanna (Mark) Fiorita of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Jessica (Danny) Hale of Munford, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren, Abby, Nick, Olivia, Atticus; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six sisters, Vernell Hutchison, Bonnell Hafford, Hazel Polach, Dorris Lawrence, Mildred Rodgers and Jo Ruth Phillips.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, with the Rev. Russell Helton officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery with military rites. Visitation is 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday.
