Fueled by 18 points from Kourtney Phillips, including 13 in a crucial second half spurt, helped Eldorado improve to 2-0 in the Lady Eagle Classic with a 65-41 win over Fairfield Tuesday night.
Eldorado got off to a slow start with Fairfield as the two clubs found themselves tied at 11 after one period of play.
Eldorado was able to outscore Fairfield 12-9 in the second quarter to take a 23-20 halftime lead.
EHS head coach Josh Bradley said he talked to his team about avoiding a slow start, something he knew his team couldn't afford to do against Fairfield.
"Fairfield did a nice job early on defense really slowing our offense up," Bradley said. "We made a few adjustments at half and were able to settle down and pull away to pick up our 15th win."
Eldorado (15-3) went on to outscore the Mules 19-11 in the third quarter with Phillips pumping in seven points and closed out the fourth quarter, outscoring Fairfield 23-10.
Following Philips' 18 points, Jacqulyn Artman had 13 points and Paige Zertuche tacked on 12 to finish in double figures.
Taylor Goodley netted nine for the Eagles, while Ashton Unthank chipped in with six.
Erica Graczyk, Abby Stead and Caitlin Stafford all had two points, while Riley Duckworth tossed in a free throw.
"It was another good game from Zertuche Phillips and Goodley," Bradley added. "Unthank is starting to hey her legs back under her from being sick. I really thought that Artman played her best game of the year for us (tonight). She played strong rebounded well and finished well around the bucket."
Eldorado returns to action Thursday when they take on Vienna at 5 p.m.
The Lady Eagle Classic features Harrisburg tonight (Wednesday) when they take on Carmi at 8 p.m. Also, Pope County plays Anna-Jonesboro at 5 p.m., while Goreville takes on Vienna at 6:30 p.m.
