  • The Harrisburg High School wrestling team dropped to 5-6 on the year in a 60-21 dual loss to Herrin Tuesday night.
Only Cody Rightnowar (132 pounds), Sean Crisenberry (138 pounds), Bryan Miller (160 pounds) and Brandon Thom (285 pounds) came away with victories.
Rightnowar came away with a pin fall at the 1:44 mark, while Crisenberry and Thom both won via forfeit. Miller won on a 4-0 decision.
The Harrisburg junior varsity club improved to 4-1 on the year with a 42-16 win over the Tigers.
Zach Clarida (106 pounds), Boyd Baker (120 pounds), Nicholas Reel (132 pounds), Dakota Barker (138 pounds), Logan Boon (170 pounds), Mackenzie Alvey (220 pounds) and Ryan Dennison (285 pounds) all picked up victories against Herrin.
Harrisburg head coach Greg Langley fully believes that Tuesday's match should have been closer than what it finished up at.
"We had some chances at three or four weights to get a win, but made some critical mistakes that cost us and we gave up a fall.
"When you have a young team those things happen and hopefully we can learn from them."
Langley added that the "younger kids" do work hard and are improving, but right now, the team is just taking their lumps.
"We must continue to improve and at the same time keep our young guys confident which is always a tough thing when wrestling more experienced competition."
Harrisburg returns to the mats at home with Benton, Mt. Carmel and Carterville Saturday at 9 a.m. inside Bonnell Gymnasium.
