  • A Black Diamond Eastern Conference matchup will decide the Consolation Championship of the 48th Annual Eldorado Holiday Tournament Monday when the host Eagles play Fairfield at 3 p.m.
By virtue of knocking off fellow BDC East member Carmi-White County 70-64 in the last game of the tournament Saturday night, Eldorado will play for their second ever consolation championship when the tournament’s No. 7 overall seed hooks up with the Mules, the tournament’s No. 8 seeded team Monday afternoon.
Fairfield has three consolation championships in their trophy case.
After the two teams closed out the third quarter tied at 44, Eldorado's Joel Boulds put the Eagles on his back and capped off a game-high 25 points with 10 points in the fourth quarter, which included a shooting clip of 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
It's not the first time Boulds has led the Eagles in scoring this season, but the timing was right according to EHS head coach T.J. Zurliene
"Joel played a great game tonight," Zurliene said. "When we needed him in the crunch time he came through for us. He got two huge layups for us and we called a play for him about a minute later and get got a great pass to Justin Wiseman off a pick and roll, so he really did a good job of getting us points when we needed them."
Those two layups came between the 4:52 mark and the 4:22 mark in the fourth quarter that gave Eldorado a 54-47 lead.
The Eagles biggest lead of the quarter came moments later when Wiseman sunk a pair of free throws to give the Eagles a 58-49 advantage.
Despite what was at times a see-saw fourth quarter, Zurliene was happy with the way his team responded to some adversity.
"We had a couple of seven-point and five-point leads and let Carmi back in it. We overcame some lapses and worked our butts off to get this win."
Tyler Deaton tacked on 17 points for Eldorado, who will now go for their third straight win in the tournament.
Wiseman finished with nine points in the game, while Dylan Lawrence added eight points. Dylan Street chipped in with seven and Richard Graceffa finished with four points.
Eldorado led 13-11 after one quarter of play and both ballclubs went into the locker room tied at 29.
Carmi-White County put three players in double figures, but were led by Andy Vaughn's 19 points.
