Harrisburg High School head wrestling coach doesn't want the score against Marion to be indicative of just how well his team performed Tuesday night.
Marion won 72-12 in a dual match at Bonnell Gymnasium, but Langley said, while the final tally may not show it, his guys were right there with the Wildcats in five matches point wise when they gave up a pin.
"This one went about like I thought it might," Langley said. "I knew going in that Marion had a veteran team and we are pretty young and have many inexperienced guys going for us right now.
"I told the kids afterwards that it is extremely early in the season, we are behind in our conditioning due to the late start and we are young."
That being said, Langley added that despite just two wins, one for Darren O' Dell, a sophomore in the 113-pound weight class and another for Austin Lowry, also a sophomore, in the 126-pound weight class, Harrisburg (0-1) just could not finish like Langley was hoping for.
"We have to get our young guys to finish their matches and put together three periods of wrestling. This group picks things up well and we will continue to work in practice and make improvements."
O'Dell won with a pin fall in 4:56, while Lowry won with a fall time of 3:31.
The Wildcats won 12 out of the 14 matches by pins. Marion had to forfeit the 113-pound match, but had mostly no trouble with the Bulldogs.
Marion's Justin Edwards defeated James Baker by pin in 4:29 in the 145-pound match. In the 152-pound match, Marion's Mitchell Bartle pinned Harrisburg's Lucian Hicks in 2:38.
At 160 pounds, Marion's Jon Evetts pinned Zach Perkins in just 1:23. Marion's Jonah Belanger pinned Harrisburg's Bryan Miller in 5:16 in the 170-pound matchup.
At 195 pounds, Marion's Tony Allen won by pin. He pinned Cole Adams in 3:56.
Marion's Tyrone Maples (220 pounds) defeated Tyler Owens in 4:33.
In the heavyweight bout, Marion's Preston Lunon downed Brandon Thom in 1:45.
Marion's Chase McGee and Brandon Tennyson won by forfeits.
Marion's Michael James (120 pounts) got past Tyler Sullivan in 3 minutes.
The Wildcats' C.J. Morrison (132 pounds) pinned the Bulldogs' Cody Rightnowar in 4:30. Marion's Luke Abott won by pin over Brandon Tanner of Harrisburg at 138 pounds in 3:38.
Harrisburg will host Murphysboro on Thursday, starting at 6:30 p.m.
