  • If they had been on sale Tuesday night the Carrier Mills-Stonefort Wildcats could not have bought a rebound.
Eldorado coach TJ Zurliene said his teams success in the weight room over football season would be his teams biggest asset this season and he was proven right as the Eldorado Eagles used endurance and their size in the paint to out muscle the Wildcats winning Tuesday night's matchup 73-52.
"They were just too physical for our guys," Carrier Miils-Stonefort coach Mark Motsinger said. "We played good until we got into foul trouble early on, then we just couldn't hit any outside shots after that."
Tyler Deaton, a 5-foot-10 junior guard, led all scorers with 20 points as the Eagles started the game off hot with a full court press and a 7-0 run in the first three minutes of play.
Although 6-2 senior forward Cameron Taborn's three first quarter fouls didn't help the Wildcats, they fired back early with eight points from 5-6 junior guard Dalton Huckleberry to close the lead, keeping up with the fast paced Eagles who only led by three at the end of the first quarter.
However, that was the closest it would come for the Wildcats as they struggled without Taborn failing to hit outside shots and pull down rebounds throughout the game.
The Eagles pulled away just before half time with a pair of stick backs from 6-1 center Justin Wiseman.
With a half time score of 36-22, the Wildcats just couldn't keep up with Eagles in the second half as Deaton converted a threesome of steals into layups.
"We limited our turnovers, didn't foul much and kept the pressure coming the entire game," Zurliene said. " We played an up tempo game and learned a lot from last nights loss to Century."
The Wildcats went 1-of-16 from the behind the arc with the teams only 3-pointer coming from 5-11 sophomore guard Darren Betz late in the third quarter.
As the Eagles led 56-37 at the beginning of the fourth quarter, six points from the Wildcat's 6-0 sophomore guard Loren Whiting couldn't save them as the Eagles put the opposition away for good.
