  • At this point in the season, you can crown Chester champions of the Black Diamond Conference.
That doesn’t mean that when Eldorado enters W.O. Smith Stadium Friday night, they still won’t play the role of spoiler.
At 6-0 and every other Black Diamond Conference team having at least two losses, the Yellow Jackets have ran roughshod through the season without a blemish.
That’s where Eldorado is hoping to make its mark.
“Their strengths are they are small and quick, where as we are big and physical,“ Eldorado head coach Brandon Hampton said. “Hopefully we can make it as much of a street fight as possible and grind it out with our offensive line. We’ll try to limit their big play ability and try to make them turn the ball over some.“
Eldorado comes into Friday’s nights showdown at 4-2 after last week’s loss to Johnston City. A win would more than likely secure the Eagles a sport in the playoffs, but Hampton knows that in order for that to happen his team has to “be there with a chance to win it in the fourth quarter.”
“Chester is what you think of when you think of a conference champion,“ Hampton said. “They are very good on both sides of the ball. What separates them in our league is their ability to throw the ball, they throw for a high percentage.
“Defensively, they limit teams in scoring opportunities and they’re very good in the kicking game.”
Eldorado could see the return of senior season starting quarterback Nick Schimp, who hasn’t played since the first quarter Week 3 against Elverado-Trico.
Since then, in the following three games, Eldorado has used two other quarterbacks, including Tanner Smith and Nathan Burnett.
If Schimp, who suffered an ankle injury against the Falcons is unable to go, Burnett, who has started the last two games will get the nod.
“I think we’ll get good quarterback play,” Hampton claimed. “But the reality is we haven’t lost a game or two games because of the quarterback position.”
