As the Eldorado High School girls' golf team loaded their bus en route to Shawnee Hills Country Club in Harrisburg, Eagle golf coach Greg Goodley had a few words of encouragement for his linksters on the 10-mile drive.
Constantly seeking improvement,
"I just told them, 'lets try to shoot something around the 150's,'" Goodley said. They kind of shot that theory out of the water."
The Eldorado girls' golf team took their head coach's advice and then did him one better as EHS had four scores in the 30's as they shot a team total of 147, eclipsing the school record mark of 163.
Leading the way was Ashton Goodley, as the sophomore picked up her fifth straight medal honor, blitzing the field with a -2 under, 34.
Taylor Goodley and Charly Lowery each fired a 1-over, 37, while Ashton Unthank carded a 39 and Taylor Aldridge finished with a 42. Sydney Tate rounded out the scoring for Eldorado with a 55.
Goodley, who also served as the boys' coach at one point, said he wasn't sure if any of those teams ever shot a 147.
"We might have had a few 150's here and there," he added. "These are exciting times and we're pretty pumped."
Goodley also said that with some of Monday's rain across Harrisburg and Eldorado, the greens at Shawnee Hills became more receptive and added that his girls took condition of that.
"It's not a course that really has a lot of trouble on it," Goodley said of Shawnee Hills Country Club. They just really managed their game well. The greens were nice to putt on and that's really where we took advantage of things."
No team score or individual total was submitted by Harrisburg High School.
