- Firefighters battle large fire
- Posted April 11, 2012 midnight
- Harrisburg firefighters spent over an hour battling a tire fire in the yard of Bishop’s Truck Service, 333 E. Sloan St. Chief Bill Summers said he heard someone nearby had been burning leaves in a ditch and that the fire crept under the fence surrounding the salvage yard until it caught a large pile of tires on fire. Firefighters attacked the fire with the aerial nozzle of the Ladder 1 truck that was able to reach over the fence and the Engine 4 truck went inside the yard to fight small fire in there. Bishop’s staff used machinery to separate the tires to aid in extinguishment. Firefighters arrived at 4:25 p.m. and left at 5:50 p.m.
