Two local Girl Scouts named cookie all-stars
Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois has wrapped up its annual cookie program and all the girls' hard work paid off with 718,485 packages sold by Southern Illinois Scouts this year.

Rotary cyclist on 1,000-mile trek stops in Chester
St. Louis Rotary Club member Ralph Zuke made a pit stop in Chester last week on his 1,000-mile bike ride to raise awareness for Rotary International's ongoing fight to eradicate polio throughout the world.

CHS band students volunteer at pancake breakfast
Several members of the Chester High School band volunteered to help wait tables at the 2022 United Methodist Men Pancake Breakfast Saturday, April 2. The event had to be canceled the past two years due to COVID-19 but returned this year with a vengeance. The First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall was packed throughout most of the morning. Without the help of the CHS band members, it would have been almost impossible to keep up with the demands of the day. Left to right are: Nicole DeGuzman, Rylie McDonough, Will Welge, Isiah Roth, Band Director Steve Colonel, Toby Gercis and Ary Shipley.

March Mobile Market
For the third month in a row, volunteers at the monthly Chester Area Christian Food Pantry (CACFP) Mobile Market faced inclement weather. Wednesday, March 23, it was rainy, cold and breezy as approximately 25 dependable volunteers served roughly 73 vouchered automobiles.

After having to postpone last year's annual pancake breakfast due to COVID-19, the Methodist Men of the First United Methodist Church in Chester are very pleased to bring back the popular event Saturday, April 2.

Grant funds science equipment, books for fifth grade classrooms
Chester Grade School fifth grade teacher Tammy Liefer received a $980 Hands-On Science 2.0 grant from the Lambda State Foundation for Educational Studies, Inc., a constituent of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

WIBH, Head Start spearhead shoe drive for needy children
This April, as part of Child Abuse Prevention Month,WIBH Radio in Anna will partner with local agencies on the new "Warm Soles, New Hope" campaign to provide new shoes for children in need.

United Way awards $250,000 in COVID-19 recovery funding
United Way of Greater St. Louis has awarded 26 nonprofits serving Missouri and Illinois residents with emergency response grants totaling $252,400. The funding was earmarked for United Way member and nonmember agencies serving people in Jefferson, Warren, Lincoln, and Franklin Counties in Missouri; and Calhoun, Jersey, Madison, and Randolph Counties in Illinois.

Cold day for Mobile Market
With temperatures in the low 20s, approximately 20 volunteers unloaded food items off the St. Louis Area Food Bank Truck Feb. 23 at the Mobile Market hosted by the Chester Area Christian Food Pantry (CACFP).
