10-0! Panthers rough up AJ to remain unbeaten

PINCKNEYVILLE - The Pinckneyville High School boys basketball team overcame a sloppy first quarter to defeat Anna-Jonesboro, 63-30, last Friday and remain unbeaten through the first 10 games of the season.

Both teams came into the contest undefeated in conference, but the Panthers used their deep bench and running game to take the win at home for their tune-up for the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic this Friday and Saturday.

The Wildcats actually led after one period, 8-5, but Pinckneyville outscored A-J 58-22 over the remaining three periods. Top scorer for the Panthers was Dawson Yates with 15 points. Joining him in double figures was Grant Jausel with 11.

Others scoring points were: Tyler Rice-9, Tanner Spihlmann-8, Kyle Luke-7, Kyle Kreger-6, JC Moll-5 and Devin Kitchen-2.

The Panthers converted 24-of-54 shots from the field (44 percent), including a subpar 4-of-16 (25 percent) from beyond the arc. They were 11-of-18 from the free-throw line.

The Wildcats could only knock down 12-of-42 shots, including a frigid 1-of-14 from long range and were 5-15 from the charity stripe.
