Comment on vaccine was small-minded, judgmental To the editor: On Sept. 17, 2021, the Carbondale Times posted a letter from George Maroney titled, "If you don't get the vaccine, you are just plain stupid." Like Mr. Maroney I also have been biting my tongue. I found that comment very small-minded and judgmental and wondered why the Carbondale Times would post it.

How the Shawnee National Forest works
In southern Illinois, we are fortunate to have the Shawnee National Forest as our backyard. It is currently almost 300,000 acres of protected, mostly forested land that we all benefit from and enjoy in different ways. But I think it's a fair bet that many people don't understand or could use a refresher on everything from how the whole thing got started to how it works. So, for the next several weeks I'm taking to a deep dive on the Shawnee National Forest.

Royalton native wins state fair crown
Addisyn Calloni, the 2021 Miss Perry County and a native of Royalton, was named Miss Illinois County Fair 2022 on Sunday, beating out a statewide group of candidates for the honor. The Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs held its 111th annual convention at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield Jan. 14 to 16.
