Middle School Hoops: HMS take regional title over Marion

The Harrisburg Middle School girls' basketball team capped off a perfect regular season (22-0) with a 43-40 regional championship win over Marion and will now take part in Saturday's Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association State Tournament.

In the win over Marion, Jamisen Green had a game-high 18 points for HMS, 10 of which came in the first half as the Bulldogs built a 23-20 lead. Harrisburg led 15-9 after the first quarter, getting contributions from Hannah Rorer, Emma Harbison, Abi Wilson and Green.

Rorer scored seven points in the win, while Wilson chipped in with six points. Harbison and Quincy Nicholes each finished with four points a piece, while Emma Morse and Koral Hathaway both tacked on two points.

The Harrisburg Middle School girls' basketball team has now won 34 straight games after going 14-0 last season and not being able to compete in the state tournament.

Harrisburg will take on Waterloo Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Rend Lake College, site of the SIJHSAA Class L State Tournament. A win would put HMS in Tuesday night's semifinals.
