Prep Bowling: Graham, McDowell pace Harrisburg at Herrin Invite

Over the weekend, the Harrisburg girls' bowling team finished seventh out of 14 teams at the Herrin Invitational.

Abbie Graham paced the Bulldogs with aa 1087 for six games, while Macie McDowell chipped in with a 1037.

"We had a solid effort, but we are not at the level of the better teams at this point," Harrisburg head coach Doug Cottom said. "Hopefully we can continue to show improvement as we go along this season."

The Harrisburg boys and girls' bowling teams each lost at Anna-Jonesboro on Thursday evening.

Abbie Graham posted a solid 585 and Karol Simmons finished with a 490 in a 2592-2189 loss.

The Bulldog boys fell 2624-2558 as Even McDermott had a big last game of 257 to get 656 for the series and Noah Arnold continues to establish himself as the No. 2 for Harrisburg with a 587.

"We played better on both sides, but real into a couple of good teams in A-J," Harrisburg head coach Doug Cottom said. "The A-J girls are the premier team in the area and they substituted freely in posting almost 2600 and they once again have fielded a solid boys team."

On Wednesday, Harrisburg came up short in a triangular against Carterville/Herrin.

Carterville was the winner on the girls side with 2125 followed by Herrin at 2099 and Harrisburg had a 2080

Abbie Graham shot 640 for the three games, a solid 213 average, followed by Karol Simmons at 500.

Herrin won the boys match with 2768, followed closely by Carterville at 2763. The Bulldogs posted 2594 as Arnold finished with a 516 to pace the boys.

Harrisburg will close out the week with a trip to Alton for the Holiday Tournament, which takes place Thursday.
