Third time is charm for Post 167 against Owensboro

The third time was the charm for Harrisburg's Post 167 American Legion baseball team.

After falling short this past weekend - twice - against Owensboro Post 7 in the Booker Tuner Memorial Wood Bat Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee, including a 7-4 loss in the championship game, Harrisburg extracted some revenge in an 8-2 victory Wednesday night at Jay Thompson Field in Harrisburg.

Post 167 pounded out 14 hits on the evening as Ben Brombaugh launched a late inning solo home run and Colby Morse and Drew Fromm each had a double.

Andrew Bittle helped himself out on the mound as he went 4-for-5 at the plate with an RBI, while Krayton Morse was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Colby Morse and Brombaugh both went 2-for-4 as Morse had a team-high three RBI and two runs scored. Brombaugh had three runs scored and an RBI.

Jackson Pittman, Riley King and Fromm all had one hit, while Luke Miller recorded an RBI. Pittman scored two runs and King scored one run.

On the bump, Bittle went seven strong innings, allowing one run on four hits, while striking our four and walking two. Braden Unthank came on in relief and worked two innings, allowing one run, while walking four.

Over the weekend in Nashville, Post 167 kicked off the tournament with a 5-3 win over Huntsville, Alabama Post 237.

Harrisburg had eight hits as Brombaugh, VanMeter and Colby Morse all had two hits. Noah Boon had a pair of RBI and Brombaugh scored two runs.

On the mound, Bittle pitched six innings, striking out four and allowing three runs (unearned) on three hits.

Post 167 then fell to Owensboro 6-4 in Game 1 Saturday, but rebounded to beat Madisonville, Ky., 13-7.

Against Owensboro, Bittle had three hits and finished with an RBI, while Brombaugh, Krayton Morse, VanMeter and Fromm all had a hit.

In the win over Madisonville, Bittle went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI, while Krayton Morse was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. VanMeter went 2-for-3 with four RBI and Miller went 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Braden Unthank went three innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on six hits, while striking out two. Chance Moscardelli came on in relief, working two innings, striking out there, while allowing one run on two hits.

Harrisburg returns to action Saturday to play a doubleheader in Madisonville, playing at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
