Bulldogs beat Herrin, Gallatin Co. over weekend

The Harrisburg girls' basketball team picked up a trio of wins over the weekend, taking two games on Saturday.

Early in the afternoon, Harrisburg rallied in the fourth quarter to pick up a 33-30 victory over SIRR Ohio rival Herrin and then later in the evening, trekked 20 minutes east and posted a 33-30 win at Gallatin County High School.

In the win over Herrin, the comeback began when Harrisburg, who trailed by as many as five points, got a top of the key three from Riley Harrison to tie the game at 26-all.

Harrisburg's lone senior Lauryn Gribble gave the Bulldogs the lead at 28-26 with 3:02 to play and Harrison answered for a second time, but from the same spot with another triple to stretch the lead to 31-26 with 2:17.

A Layla Wade putback for Herrin with 49 ticks left, cut the 'Dogs' lead to one, 31-30, but Chelsea Davidson gave Harrisburg some breathing room with a pair of free throws at the five second mark for the three-point victory.

Gribble, who was recognized before the game on Harrisburg's Senior Day, led the Bulldogs with 12 points.

Harrison had nine for Harrisburg, while Sidney Neal scored six points. Davidson finished with four points, while Steam Black had two points.

<b>Harrisburg 33, Gallatin County 30</b>

Harrisburg had to mount another rally Saturday night in a non-conference road win at Gallatin County that was highlighted by the Bulldogs going a perfect 14-of-14 from the free-throw line in a 33-30 win.

Gallatin County jumped out to a 10-point 14-4 lead, but the Bulldogs started chipping away in the second quarter, outscoring the Hawks 11-6 to trim the halftime deficit to five, 20-15. In the third quarter, Harrisburg outscored Gallatin County 14-5 to take a 29-25 lead going into the final eight minutes.

Gallatin County shot 35 percent from the field, going 13-for-37 and was 60 percent from the free-throw line, hitting 3-of-5 free throws.

Harrisburg shot 22 percent from the field, going 8-for-35, but got it done at the free-throw line, hitting 14-of-14 free throws.

Riley Harrison led the Bulldogs with 10 points, while Chelsea Davidson added eight points. Lauryn Gribble scored six points, while Kailyn Moss finished with four and Vershay Guyton tossed in two points.

Mackenzie Russell had 13 points to lead Gallatin County and Carly Foster finished in double figures with 12 points.

Haley Gwaltney tossed in three points for the Hawks, while Jenna Vickery tacked on two points.

<b>Harrisburg 45, West Frankfort 31</b>

Harrisburg put three players in double figures in picking up an SIRR Ohio Division win at West Frankfort Thursday night.

Lauryn Gribble led the Bulldogs with 11 points, while Riley Harrison and Chelsea Davidson each tacked on 19 points.

Sidney Neal added eight points, while Kailyn Moss finished with four points. Vershay Guyton tacked on two points.

Harrisburg jumped out to an 8-5 first quarter lead and outscored West Frankfort 16-11 in the second quarter, leading 24-16 at halftime. The Redbirds did outscore Harrisburg 11-9 in the third quarter, but Harrisburg didn't let its lead slip, ending the game on a 12-4 run.
