Help Wanted! Fetcho looking for volunteers for upcoming MVC championship

Fresh off a a first place finish at the Kingsmill Intercollegiate Tournament, SIU mens' golf head coach Justin Fetcho has his sights on the Salukis' next prize.

It's a big one and he needs your help.

The Missouri Valley Conference Golf Tournament will be contested April 23-24 at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

With zero home tournaments on the SIU men's golf schedule, Fetcho feels like this is the one chance the southern Illinois - and surrounding area - community has to get up close and personal with a team that is going for its second MVC title under Fetcho's watch.

But why spectate, when you can participate.

That's where Fetcho is putting out flyers.

In his fourth season, the Eldorado High School and John A. Logan Hall of Famer, is looking to do live scoring on every hole of this year's MVC Tournament and is soliciting the general public's help in making that happen.

The tournament will be 36 holes the first day (Monday) and 18 holes the final day (Tuesday). The first day can be broken up into shifts, an 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. morning shift and a 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. evening shift, give or take. Tuesday would just be something along the lines of 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"What we are looking to do is live score every hole of the MVC Tournament and that can be done in a number of ways. We need enough volunteers to do live scoring and make the championship that much better. One person could sit on one hole and report scores and at the same time, get to watch some really amazing and talented golfers."

Fetcho admits he would like any help he can get as SIU is the host school for this year's MVC Tournament, but the big thing for him is live scoring and for good reason.

"I want to make this an MVC Tournament that everyone can remember and I know that since I have been here, the one thing that has been lacking is live scoring on every hole. I would love to make this championship the first one."

While Fetcho says he has some volunteers already in place, there could never be enough help.

"It can take a small village to pull off tournaments of this size and for SIU to be the host, I think it would be great to see our community step up. This is going to be our one home tournament and it just so happens to be for the MVC championship. If you're one of the 18 volunteers on a hole, you'll get to see every Saluki golfer and help cheer us on at one of the best events we'll have all year."
