Logan women fall at Kaskaskia

CENTRALIA - Jazmine Hawkins hit a 3-pointer and teammate Davia Boyd followed that with a quick steal and layup to lift the Kaskaskia Blue Angels to a 78-75 win over John A. Logan College on Wednesday night.

The game was tied at 54 after three quarter and Kaskaskia built a seven-point lead but Logan tied it at 71 on a basket from Farasia Hodge.

It was tied again at 73 after Logan's Destiny Cozart scored with a minute left.

Hawkins, who is from Mt. Vernon, nailed the game's biggest shot with her 3-pointer at the 45-second mark, then in a blink Boyd, who is from Centralia, added her layup to make it 78-73.

Logan pulled within three and got the ball back after Hawkins missed two free throws but a 3-point try from Miriah Donelson didn't draw iron and went out of bounds with 2.4 seconds left.

Although Hawkins and Boyd provided the late heroics, it was Jessie Kee that did most of the damage for the Angels. Kee dropped in 28 points in the victory.

Joshulyn Shepherd added 16 points, while Hawkins and Boyd both had 11 for Kaskaskia, which is now 8-8 overall and 3-5 in the GRAC.

Hodge scored 16 points, while Cozart had 13 and Shaniya Whitsell had 12 for the Lady Vols, who dropped to 12-6 and 6-3.

Logan plays next at Lincoln Trail on Saturday.
